Merete Villum Pedersen is the Head of Business Models & Finance in UNEP-DTU Partnership (a collaborative centre of UN Environment Programme, based in the Technology University of Denmark). She brings to UDP more than 23 years of experience within development policy and cooperation, as well as diplomacy, within environment and climate change in Asia and Africa, as well as the global scene. MVP started her career in the Mekong River Commission, being based for three years in Lao PDR and Cambodia. She subsequently joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark, as a Senior Technical Advisor on Environment, covering Danida programmes throughout the world. After a three year posting as Development Counsellor in the Danish Embassy in Tanzania, designing and managing a 100 mill USD portfolio, she was appointed as Chief Technical Adviser and Head of the Danida team covering Climate Change, Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources. During a three year posting as Sustainable Development Adviser in Brussels to the High Representative of the European External Action Service, she joined the EU diplomacy and negotiation team in relation to the UN Rio conference and the Sustainable Development Goals. Returning to the Ministry, she continued her management position, and became Chair of the OECD technical group “Environet”, board member of the Green Climate Fund, GCF, and Council member of the Global Environment Facility. MVP holds an M.Sc. in Human Geography 1997, and a Bachelor Degree in Management 2010.
