Eurobuild interviews Dorota Bartosz of the Polish Green Building Council (PLGBC) about PLGBC’s new certification system for sustainable residential buildings. According to Bartosz, more than 1,000 commercial buildings are now certified, compared to only 43 residential buildings which is attributable to factors like cost and complexity of certifications. The EU SMARTER program is said to address these challenges particularly in the case for the first Polish residential building certification system. Of the six areas that the certification considers (Energy Efficiency, Construction, Location, Building Materials, Health and Wellbeing and Water Use) energy makes up a large portion to encourage the development of zero-energy homes.
