The European Covered Bond Council (‘ECBC’) notes the sustainable covered bond market has continued to expand since the first sustainable covered bond issuance in 2014 with the total amount outstanding around €39.0bn at the end of June 2021. The ECBC explores the market with a focus on size, varieties and formats of sustainable covered bonds, new supply, investor base, relative value, use of proceeds, sustainable bond indices and central bank policy related to climate risk. Green covered bonds form the majority of outstanding sustainable covered bonds, with 71% share of total sustainable covered bonds outstanding at the end of June 2021.
