Building Efficiency Initiative

The World Resources Institute (WRI) and Johnson Controls (JCI) announced in October 2014 the launch of a new Building Efficiency Initiative in the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities. The Building Efficiency Initiative is a multi-year partnership that will expand on efforts of Johnson Controls’ Institute for Building Efficiency to provide expertise on the policies, practices and technologies for efficient, high performance buildings and energy systems around the world. 
The Building Efficiency Initiative combines Johnson Controls’ expertise as the global leader in providing building efficiency solutions with WRI’s research excellence and on-the-ground experience in creating more prosperous and livable cities. Jennifer Layke, Executive Director of Institute for Building Efficiency, will lead the new Building Efficiency Initiative on a two year assignment to WRI.
The Building Efficiency Initiative will build market awareness and action on 1) local government leadership by example, particularly in the developing world, 2) local benchmarking and sustainable building certification and labeling approaches, 3) innovative financing to support efficiency investments, and 4) distributed energy systems at the building and community scale. The Initiative will also act as the secretariat for the Building Efficiency Accelerator of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4All) and provide support to cities participating in the SE4ALL Energy Efficiency Accelerator Platform.
