Mr. Oomeshwar Sewtohul is the Director of Energy Efficiency at the Energy Efficiency Management Office (EEMO) within the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities in Mauritius, a role he has held since March 2023. He is a Registered Professional Engineer in Electrical & Electronics and a Certified Energy Auditor.
With extensive experience in energy management and electrical engineering, Mr. Sewtohul leads the implementation of the EEMO’s core functions, including maintaining a national database on energy consumption, formulating innovative financing schemes for energy efficiency projects, and devising public awareness programs on efficient energy use.
In this capacity, he was instrumental in devising finance schemes to promote energy efficiency, drafting regulations under the Energy Efficiency Act, and assessing the energy efficiency of building designs, equipment, and processes. His earlier experience includes providing electrical consultancy services and managing electrical building services for the Government of Mauritius.
Mr. Sewtohul holds a B.Eng (Hons) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and an M.Sc in Project Management from the University of Mauritius. His comprehensive background in energy policy, technical implementation, and project management makes him a valuable voice on building energy efficiency.
