Prof. Martina Schäfer studied biology in Stuttgart-Hohenheim and did her doctorates in environmental technology and sociology at the TU Berlin. Since 2010 she has been one of the Scientific Directors of the Center for Technology and Society (ZTG) at Technische Universität Berlin. Since the beginning of her work at ZTG in 1996, she conducted and led numerous interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research projects in the field of sustainability research. Her research interests are sustainable regional development, sustainable consumption, sustainable land use and methods of inter- and transdisciplinary research. From 2008 to 2014 she worked on the sustainability advisory board of the state of Brandenburg. Currently she is active as an expert in the Foresight Process of the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
