The Role of Electricity in Heating and Cooling

This report describes how there are strong opportunities to better marry the European Union’s electricity and thermal energy markets to help drive up penetration of renewables, increase efficiency, lower emissions and support economic growth. The principal heating and cooling markets are in buildings, as are the major electrical markets. Therefore, buildings are considered a key domain in this report where linkages between the two markets should be fostered, according to the authors.
