The 2026 Global ESCO Market Survey confirms a sector that continues to grow in scale and geographic scope but remains structurally uneven. Investment is heavily concentrated: the United States, China, and Italy together account for around 93 percent of total reported investment in this edition. Seven new markets join the dataset for the first time, and the overall direction of travel, more countries, deeper engagement with performance contracting, and rowing integration of ESCO models into national energy policy, is positive. The central value proposition remains unchanged: EPC allows clients to invest in efficiency without competing for capital in annual budgets. At the same time, the barriers that have constrained ESCO market development for decades,
access to finance, regulatory complexity, skills shortages, and short contract horizons, remain firmly in place across the majority of surveyed markets.
