By 2050, it is projected that India will see an unprecedented escalation of floor area of around 400%. But to date, the efforts of India’s policymakers have focused on reducing energy consumption in new commercial buildings. To achieve a significant scale will depend on efficiency measures becoming standard in the residential building segment which until now has not been a priority for energy efficiency policy yet makes up 75% of India’s construction market.
