India District Cooling Virtual Knowledge Hub – Who We Are

The Indian District Cooling Virtual Knowledge Hub is a premier collaborative platform dedicated to accelerating the adoption of sustainable cooling solutions across India. Established as a joint initiative by GIZ and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), in coordination with key national stakeholders, the Hub serves as a centralized repository for technical expertise, policy frameworks, and best practices. Our mission is to bridge the gap between global innovation and local implementation, providing a space where stakeholders can access the data and tools necessary to design and deploy energy-efficient district cooling systems.

By fostering a robust community of practice, we empower urban planners, policymakers, and industry leaders to transition toward climate-resilient infrastructure. Through synergy and shared knowledge, the Hub supports India’s commitment to the India Cooling Action Plan (ICAP) and global climate goals, ensuring that the country’s urban growth is both sustainable and economically viable. Considering that collective knowledge is the key to solving the cooling challenge, the Hub facilitates seamless exchange between technology providers, government bodies, and developers to scale up low-carbon cooling technologies.

The Hub is a direct outcome of this commitment of implementation of ICAP, providing in-depth training modules, resources, and a collaborative space for all stakeholders involved in the cooling sector. By fostering a community of practice and facilitating knowledge exchange, we strive to build local capacity, standardize project development, and ultimately contribute to India’s ambitious climate and sustainable development goals.

Our focus is on creating a future where Indian cities stay cool without compromising the environment. By providing high-quality training, case studies, and technical guidance, the Hub acts as a catalyst for innovation. We invite all stakeholders to join us in building a sustainable cooling ecosystem.

The Hub is financed by the IKI-funded project implemented by GIZ.
