The first International ESCO Symposium brought together ESCOs, ESCO associations, government representatives, financial institutions, and associated partners to inspire government actions for scaling up the contribution of ESCOs to the global response for mitigating the threat of climate change and the goals set out by the Paris Agreement.
Participants had the opportunity to gain insights on the current ESCO market situation, and barriers, drivers and enablers for ESCO Market development, learn about new and upcoming trends, developments and business opportunities to finance and scale up ESCO projects and programmes, meet peers and got the opportunity to further network and identify new opportunities.
The Symposium covered the following main topics:
- The scope of ESCOs in achieving national energy efficiency targets and contributing to the global climate change agenda
- Regulatory barriers to the development of ESCO’s activities, ways to overcome or circumvent these barriers and regulatory revisions that can benefit the sector.
- Challenges in securing financing for ESCO projects and on how innovations revolving de-risking mechanisms, capitalization for ESCO projects and blended finance can help overcome these hurdles.
- Upcoming trends related to ESCO markets, including various constellations of integrated energy efficiency, energy generation, e-mobility and carbon management contract models, and the role and implications for measurement and verification.
These topics were explored through a variety of discussion panels and presentations by senior leaders and ESCO experts from governments, ESCO associations, businesses, financial institutions and academia.
The International ESCO Symposium was hosted by the Global ESCO Network in partnership with the UN Environment Programme and the support of the US National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO) and the International Copper Association.
